Studies on identification and authentication of medicinal plants

Image

The Project Focus On The Corrected Identification And Authentication Of Medicinally Important Plants. The Accurate Identification Of Medicinal Plants In Relation To Their Purity And Quality As Well As Safe Application Has Become Increasingly Important. DNA Barcode Analysis Is A Powerful Technique For The Identification, Vouching And Registration Of Medicinal Plants Especially When There Is High Species Diversity. The Guggul (Commiphora Wightii) Is An Endangered, Endemic Species Found In The India And Tinospora Cordifolia Is Widely Used For Medicine. Due To The Important Medicinal Properties Of Both The Plants Are Demand Always High In The Pharmaceutical Industries. The Populations Of This Plant Are Rapidly Dwindling Due To Overexploitation For Their Medicinally Important Properties. Both Plants Are Substituted Or Adulterated With Their Nearest Species. We Have Screened Five Candidate DNA Barcoding Loci To Establish An Accurate And Effective Plant Species Identification System, Both For Commercial And Conservation Purposes. From The Phylogeny Tree Of RbcL, MatK, PsbB, RpoB, And RpoC1 DNA Sequences Correctly Placed Species With The Correct Family With High Statically Support (bootstraps Value). Due To High Sequences Divergences, The Selected Barcode Regions Can Distinguish Plant Species And Simply Place This Species In The Correct Family. This Study Will Be Providing Preliminary Assessment Data That Will Be Useful For Widest Application Of DNA Barcoding Of Others Medicinal Important Plants.
