Upgradation of survey list of seaweeds
The Project Focus On The Study Of Biodiversity Of Seaweed Species From The Saurashtra Costal Area. India Has 7,500 Km Of Coastline Bounded To The South By The Indian Ocean To The West By The Arabian Sea To The East By The Bay Of Bengal. Gujarat Covers Nearly 1600 Km Of Coastal Area And Supports A Rich Diversity Of Seaweeds, Plays A Crucial Role In Maintaining This Biodiversity. The Aims Of Current Study To Investigate The Seaweed Diversity Along The Saurashtra Coast Of Gujarat, India, Over A Last Five-year Period, Focusing On The Distribution And Ecological Significance Of Seaweed Species. The Collected Species Were Taxonomically Identified, Classified, And Their Herbarium Was Prepared. An Updated Checklist Of Species From Saurashtra Coast Is Prepared. The Present Study Recorded 232 Species Of Seaweeds From The Regions Of Veraval, Okha, And Nearby Areas. Among These, Rhodophyta (138 Species) Were The Most Diverse, Followed By Chlorophyta (52 Species) And Phaeophyta (42 Species). The Study Also Identified 29 New Species First Time In Gujarat Coast, Including 16 Species First Records In India, Contributing Significantly To The Existing Knowledge Of Indian Seaweed Flora. Herbariums Were Prepared On Paper And Glass Sheets. Herbarium Specimens Provided The Foundation For Many Aspects Of Research In The Plant Sciences. Available For Study And Verification By Current And Future Workers, Voucher Specimens Promote Reproducibility In The Scientific Method Because Permanent Records Document The Identification, Of Species. The Findings Of This Seaweed Species Diversity Study Could Provide A Baseline For Ecological Research, Conservation Strategies, Sustainable Management Of Inshore Marine Resources, And Various Practical Applications Of Seaweed.
